                                                        Joseph’s Trouble

                                                                                (context Genesis 37,39 - 41)

We hear of Jacob’s trouble in the Bible, and it is also used as a byword, but have you ever considered Joseph’s trouble? Joseph was Jacob’s eleventh son; firstborn of Rachel, the woman he actually loved. In Genesis 37:3, we learn how much Joseph loved that son (Joseph). This resulted in his brothers hating him. They hated him so much that they faked his death and sold him to Ishmeelite traders going to Egypt. 


You would think that Joseph got some reprieve from this wrong done to him, but in Potiphar’s house, his master, he was falsely accused of assaulting Portiphar’s wife, and was thrown in jail for years. After that, God raised his fortune and he actually became governor over Egypt, second to the King (Genesis 41:39-44). But I noticed something, there is no record that Joseph was ever vindicated of the lie told on him by Potiphar’s wife. It seemed it was even forgotten; seeing that he ascended to governor and there was no objection recorded to his new treatment. It must have pained Joseph’s heart to have languished in jail for those years wrongfully, even though he was well treated by the guard in prison. Can you imagine that happening to you? 


The lesson? God may not have vindicated Joseph, or prevented slander from overtaking him, or evil befalling him regarding his brothers, but what God did do was implement the purpose he had planned for Joseph’s life, and raise him above his circumstances. Sometimes it is not a case where God doesn't hear your prayers, or see your suffering, but he is more concerned with bringing you to where you need to be. It is not always important to be right, but important to do right. It is better to be on your way and accomplish what you need to get done, than live in the past on the evil others have done to you. 


Has someone slandered your good name? Is there no justice found for you? Consider that Jesus too was slandered, and he was not vindicated in the moment, or when he was falsely tried or beaten. He was vindicated when the promises that surrounded his life became as they should be. Your life and the way you live it is the greatest way to be vindicated of any slander. So if someone is telling lies about you, or you have suffered unjustly because of false reports, take heart; you are not alone. Pray, inhale, and move forward into your calling, and leave the dust of lies behind you. Your purpose will be your vindicator.

A Thought Having a great idea, is like seeing a light in the darkness. It's just like walking out into a beautifully lit moonlight night and beholding heaven in a glance. Good ideas make us feel excited and they can come from anywhere around us: from the water running down your body in the shower, from the sound of your friend laughing at something you are not quite sure of, from the smile of your child, from the sweet taste of fresh ripe fruit or even from utter chaos.
