Writing Activity 1

Hello!

Writing is a process. Let's start with the first step; deciding what to write about and making an outline.

What's an outline? A plan to gide you to composing your first draft or the first time you will write a piece (of description, in this case).

So let's find a suitable topic. How about, 'A Flower'? Remember the first skill in description is naming the subject. So, what could we write about a flower? Let's jot down the ideas.

Its colour/color,
what type of flower it is,
where it originates from,
its scent, height,
what bugs feed on it,
where in the world can it be found,
how to plant it.

And these are all factual information. However, you could get personal/subjective and note things such as:

how the flower makes you feel,
what it reminds you of, what
 it symbolises,

Or you could get philosophical and think about:

lessons the flower reminds you of,
moral/rhetoric associated with that flower,
any profound relaization that observing this flower has caused you to think about.

Now you try this Activity:

Generate some ideas about the following topics for practice.

1). The Waves at Sea

2). The Beautiful One

3). Fishing in a River

4). Lost at Sea

5). Dancing in the City

We'll continue in the next lesson.
Cheers to Writing

Never Give Up!

Life can be a chore. Sometimes it gets exciting, and you get hopeful. But sometimes it crashes, like a torpedo taking a dive, and you feel like, well, crap. These ups and downs of life are really based on our feelings. Feelings change everyday, many times. To determine that your life is a failure or success based on your feelings is therefore unreliable and dangerous. Why? We go through so many things everyday. Some things are bad and some things are good. If every time you feel bad about something, you become hopeless and sink into despair, you are putting your whole life at risk, over a moment in time. And conversely, if you have something great going on now and you feel good and make decisions on how you feel, even though you might be happy now, those decisions might make you unhappy later. Never make decisions on your feelings. I know this now, because I have made the mistakes and I have gotten so low in my feelings that I have actually attempted suicide more than once. Don...
A Thought Having a great idea, is like seeing a light in the darkness. It's just like walking out into a beautifully lit moonlight night and beholding heaven in a glance. Good ideas make us feel excited and they can come from anywhere around us: from the water running down your body in the shower, from the sound of your friend laughing at something you are not quite sure of, from the smile of your child, from the sweet taste of fresh ripe fruit or even from utter chaos. But never stop looking for good ideas. If you should want to write something and get writer's block, just take the time to observe your surroundings. Examine it with an open mind. Inhale and exhale, take note of the sounds, smells, textures and all that is happening around you. Behold the story of life unfolding before you and your idea is somewhere there waiting for you to discover it. And the explorer in you will find it, soon enough. Enjoy....
