Writing in Action

Some people may think writing is useless, but it can be put to good use. Apart from educating people about things, it can be used to help other people and incite action against certain things, such as bulllying.

I was bullied in school. I was teased, picked on, called names, ganged and cursed, all that was left for my attackers to do was beat me. But they never did. The strange thing is they didn't have to. The damamge was done. I had internalized the hurtful things they said to me. I began believing something was wrong with me and I was useless and worhtless and ugly and unwanted. And, the worse part is after my bullies were gone I still had the scars of what they did to me to bear.

Words are powerful things and they can hurt worse than physical wounds. You see physical wounds hurt, but when they heal, most don't hurt anymore. Or you can take a pill and forget it, or ignore it even. But when someone hurts you psychologically or emotionally, everytime you remember, the raw pain comes back as if it just happened all over again. And each time you remember it, it bruises your mind again, and leaves scars all the time. And then the pain keeps growing and getting stronger until you face the demon.

The effect that the bullying had on my self esteem and my mind lingers with me today. And they have ended up into much of my writing, especially my first novel, "The House", it's about facing bullies, and probably how I should have dealt with mine when I was in school. So I'm writing a wrong done to me years ago by writing now and telling everyone being bullied, who have been bullied, or know someone being bullied to hold on and not let them inside of you. Don't let them make you hate yourself.
They hate themselves (bullies) and they are miserable and just want everyone to be miserable like them. Some of them are really just cowards and some have their own pain and don't know how to deal with it. There are even those bullies who are envious of you because you have something or you are someone they want to be and they can't so they hate you for it.

Don't go quietly about it, tell them what they do hurt, and you will not believe their lies and no matter what they do to you, you will continue to strive for excellence and you will continue to be happy and they can't stay in your way forever. Pray, seek help, TELL what they are doing. Don't be silent. Everytime you allow someone to bully you and you do nothing about it, you give them the courage to do it to someone else.
