Coal: An Enemy in Disguise I cringed in horror when I began to do some reading about the topic of coal mining and burning. I was shocked to find out that despite the many discussions amongst world leaders about reducing coal usage and seeking out cleaner energy to save our planet, by reducing green house emissions, several of the world’s economic power house countries are still using coal increasingly, because it is cheap. The Union of Concerned Scientists USA and Doctors for the Environment Australia (DEA) both have articles on their sites purporting this very fact; coal for energy is still a big business.  Despite the fact that it is an energy, labour and capital intensive operation, as stated in the article that the Doctors for the Environment Australia wrote, it is still being used primarily to produce electricity in large quantities. The devastating impact that coal has on the societies in which it is mined and or burnt is appalling. I was shocked to note that the coal
A Book to Read If you are a writer and want writing advice from published authors, here is a good book to read. Everyone has their own taste, but I like the conversational tone that this book was written in. I also like the fact that it was written by many different authors, so there is a greater chance that you will find something to relate to. You can get it as a kindle e-book free at Amazon.com now. I don't know if it will stay free forever, so get cracking. and if you like it, leave a review; it helps the authors much. Thanks. Here is a link to the page on amazon: ' Write God or Die ' Happy reading!. Cheers!

The Darkness

Here is a sample short story....                                                     'Darkness'                                                                                  By KLS Stephenson “The night light is yours.” I heard him say. His breath was a sticky brine of alcohol and germs. He needed to brush his teeth. My ankle felt itchy. I scratched it, and as my sharp nails that haven’t been cut for weeks rubbed against my skin, a sweet sensation took over, and I dug my nails further into my own flesh. It became a maddening delight. But then I felt wetness against my finger tips, and then the distinct and pungent smell of blood. In the pale light of his lantern, I could make out the stained red colour against my fingers. I sat, a little dazed staring at my blood; my life. The life is in the blood …Whispers of forgotten bible studies drenched my ears. The light faded away. A lonesome feeling crept over me. In the silence I stood there, alone, pondering my dreadfu

Something to Think About The last time I was here, I told you I had found freedom; I should think about what I want to share as a writer. I wanted to share something today. I'm working on my book to publish on Amazon's online platform. I've changed the cover, name and I even altered the story I had previously self-published. The sales were not encouraging, so I was advised to reinvent the whole book. That's a whole other story for another time. That's not what I wanted to share. In my book, I wrote about bullying, which is something I personally experienced in school. It's a hot topic now. It's everywhere I go on the internet. I wrote about this subject, because it is something that personally concerns me. We have many bullies in our lives. We face them in many ways. Some people believe it's just something you go through at school, and you will get over it. Others might even say, they've never experienced bullying. But I dare you to think a

Freedom For Me! I was going through Writer's Digest's 'Famous Writing Quotes' page, when I discovered this gem attributed to writer Barbara Kingslover. This quote, I'm about to share, has truly touched me and I thought it was important to share it with you; "Don't try to figure out what other people want to hear from you; figure out what you have to say. It's the one and only thing you have to offer." When I read it, I felt sun rays open insided my clouded brain. And the great chain that once imprisoned me that is wheeled by any wirter's dreadful foe - worry , was suddenly loosed, and I was set free.It felt as though I was an over-inflated balloon, on the point of popping, and someone came and let out some of the air and now I was just right again. Do I sound crazed? What am I talking about? I don't think people truly understand the stress that writer's face when doing any kind of writing. Sometimes the fear that it won'
Do You Like Art? Here is a student of mine, who is studying to become a graphic artist. I want you all to show him some love. He created my new book cover (I shall not reveal it until it is ready to be on the shelf), it is AWESOME ! This is just a taste of his raw talent, and he can do much more with photoshop. These are just a few pictures of what he does idlly. If you want to give him work, his name is Denhall Barker and his email and telephone number are: barkerdenhall@gmail.com 1876-471-5137. Talents like these go well with writers. If you have a talent you are not using up, don't waste time, no matter how old you are, do something with it!!!!!!! Which one do you like the most?
Something to Write About Suppose somebody told you you're ugly, how would you react? Well I know how I would react, I would feel a little pinch inside that would tell me, "Oooch that hurts". But what would happen after? That is the point of interest for me. A lot of times when people say mean things to us, whether it is true or not, it hurts. And it could stop there, but we often let it linger and go into our subconscious. And although we are not pondering about it consciously, it is there, in the background of our minds, growing from the initial seed that was planted. This is where we begin to bully our own self. We become our own critic and tear down ourselves. The thought could not have gone so far if we didn't believe it was true. They have a saying in Jamaica, 'belief kills and belief cures'. I don't know if you've ever heard it. But it is so true. What ever you believe your conscious and unconscious mind acts on it, and that in turn inf
Something to Think About: How Writing Can Help You Heal I wrote previous posts encouraging readers to use writing as a tool to heal from hurt. I'm going to share a few of my poems that demonstrates this use of writing. Even reading other's writing is therapeutic, so I hope this helps too. Maybe when you read my work and see what I have been going through and have overcome, it will inspire you to fight on. Freedom Watching the ships set sail is like hearing a trumpet sound and wondering if it’s the End; the Apocalypse. Anxiety becomes my bread. How do such great and heavy things stay afloat in waters? Where is God now? Watching the ships set sail is like toasting bread in an oven, the heat pervades the air, crushing the moisture from the slices laid like a Lamb to the slaughter, the Saviour rests. Where is God now? Watching the ships set sail is like watching my life elude me; like a string caught in a sudden net and finds itself being pulled away

Use Writing as Therapy

Suicide I'm watching the local and international news stations and I keep hearing of suicides, and suicide bombings. You know it is all so sad, because sometimes these people who do these things, they are just in need of a little love and care from someone. There are young people out there throwing away their lives, because they are facing something they think they cannot get over. All of it is so hurtful to think of. I know depression, I was depressed once. Thank God I'm free. But others are not, and people can have so many reasons to be sad and believe things will never be better and give up. You might have someone in your life picking on you, hurting you, and making you feel ugly, stupid, unwanted. I felt all of that, but guess what, life is so funny; you don't know what can happen for you tomorrow. Hope for tomorrow. That's what disbelief does to us, it makes us feel that what is in front of us, is all there is to reality, and that's not true. So don

Encouragement

Help.... It is sometimes hard to find suitable and genuine help. We often want things to work out immediately for us, especially if we are experiencing a painful situation. But I would like to take the time to remind you that there is always spiritual help from our Saviour Jesus. He died so that we can all be conquerors. No matter what it is you are facing, you can be helped. Sometimes the help we get from Jesus is not the kind we thought we would get, or want to get, but believe the word that says, all things work out for good for those who love the Lord. All things: the good, the bad, the ugly. You might be facing your bullies, you might be having a lot of problems. It is not the end of the road. And although we like and prefer having things nice and easy, it is not always what is in our best interest. When you have problems, it is an opportunity to grow and increase in knowledge and understanding, something that all human beings have to encounter if they want to be bett
